About

DiabLoco.net

This is my personal website and blog. It’s primary purpose is to be a blog and collection of thoughts and images I’d like to have stored online for my own amusement and enjoyment. A place to flesh out ideas and share on other platforms if I want.

This Website

This site is based off of the Jekyll framework, using Liquid and SASS. I deploy any changes made, do any front end coding and at times run some of the backend. Jekyll is a static site generator running on Ruby. My goal for this site is delivering content in the form of my blogs, so I’m content focused with this blog and design is in service to that functionality.

Site Setup

I run basic Jekyll setup with minimal plugs ins and the theme is based off of the Minimal Mistakes Theme

I try to keep everything I’m running on this site based on opensource code, themes, etc. I’m also trying to run a website that isn’t heavily reliant on database calls, and that was one of my main choices with this set up. Everything should be served up smooth and fast.

About Me

First and foremost I am a husband and a father. I have been happily married since 2015 to the love of my life, my best friend, and my partner in all I do. I am happy to say that every year we grow our love through hard work and dedication to each other. We work to grow together, along side eachother as partners and friends. She is my absolute best friend in everything I do.

I have three children, two young adults and one teen. All beautiful young ladies with good heads on their shoulders. Each one intelligent as they are beautiful, unique, and talented. I am an annoying proud father when it comes to my daughters, and happy to sing their praises.

I’m retired from professional work which allows me to focus a lot on my family and my hobbies. I’ve done everything from contruction to various IT roles, worked in the body modification and piercing field, and spent some time in the United States Marine Corps.

Early in life I studied computer programming, database design, and some coursework in Network Administration. I specialized in programming in C/C++, .NET, and Databases such as MS SQL server and MySQL. I also studied web design and development using languages such as ASP.NET, PHP, and once upon a time even Perl.

I joined the United States Marine Corps in 2005, went to bootcamp at MCRD San Diego (Hollywood Marine). I did my MOS training in 29 Palms and was stationed at Marine Corps Base Hawai’i affectionately known as K-Bay. I deployed to Iraq where we were assigned to a Task Force and trained for missions outside our MOS. I was injured and sent home, and returned to civilian life in 2007. Since then I’ve been diagnosed with Post Traumtic Stress (PTS) and a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) from my time in combat, which gives me some memory problems and light sensitivty issues among other complications. I hope to speak a bit about Brain Injury on this platform and maybe that will help me to advocate for myself and others like me in other arenas of life.

After the military I floated around going between IT jobs, construction/roofing/handyman jobs, and thanks to a good friend of mine wound up in a Tattoo Shop one day Piercing. That journey led me to body modification and eventually body suspension.

I worked in the body piercing, modification, and tattoo industry until sometime in 2015 I belive. I did my first body suspension in 2011 and attended large scale events after that learning to perform body suspension. I started facilitating body suspensions in 2012, that same year I formed a suspension team “Bomb City Hook Squad” which was active until around 2017. During that time I performed supsension shows, was featured on television doing suspensions(Full Throttle Saloon - Sturgis, SD for Bike Week and the show that was on at the time), and helped to educate other people to safely practice body suspension. In 2017 I took a break from pubically doing suspension and disbanneded the team I had formed. While more recently I have returned to practicing body suspension alongside my wonderful wife. We focus mostly on private suspensions these days.

After I left the body piercing and modification field I returned to school persue a degree in Graphic Design, while in school I began freelancing and continued doing so until I retired in 2023.

I now enjoy retirement with my wife, our youngest daughter, and our three dogs. I hope to share some writings you’ll enjoy. Thanks for looking!
